Many forms of artificial intelligence, from simple decision support to self-guided systems, are coming into play across industries today. To throw light on this, an expert talk on “Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Advances in Decision Making” was delivered by Dr. Syamala Devi, HOD Computer Science, Panjab University Chandigarh under the banner of Computer Society of India.

She in her talk stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI), commonly defined as the science of making machines do things that would require human intelligence, is often confused with robotics, especially humanoid robotics, as they are the closest to ‘human’ intelligence.

While artificial intelligence has been an important area of scientific research and captured the popular imagination since the 1950s, the advancement in computing technology has brought it closer to businesses. Organizations from across the globe are adopting AI in various aspects of their business to reduce errors and increase efficiency.

The lecture proved to be of vital importance for both students and the faculty members.
