Chitkara University’s NSS Unit. Himachal Pradesh organised a plantation drive named Amrit Vatika at GSSS, Sheran, and Kalujhinda, an adopted village in Solan. The event aimed to foster environmental consciousness and cultivate a sense of responsibility towards nature, while embracing the spirit of national unity and self-reliance. Under the guidance of Dr. Anand A. Jha, along with Suraj Das and Tapas Sharma, the NSS Programme Officer, the event witnessed the participation of 75 enthusiastic NSS volunteers and coordinators.

GSSS, Sheran, and Kalujhinda villages were transformed into green oases as 150 saplings of medicinal plants were planted during the drive. This initiative was not only a step towards environmental conservation but also a commitment to nurturing the well-being of the community and the nation. The planting of medicinal plants not only contributes to the local ecosystem but also holds the promise of future healthcare benefits for the community.

The event was particularly significant as it coincided with the occasion of “Meri Mati Mera Desh” reflecting the volunteers’ dedication to making India developed and self-reliant by the year 2047. During the plantation drive, participants took a solemn pledge to eradicate any remnants of a colonial mindset and to proudly celebrate India’s rich heritage. The pledge also emphasised the importance of unity and respect for those who safeguard the nation.

Dr. Anand A. Jha motivated the participants to realise their roles as responsible citizens who can significantly contribute to the country’s progress. Suraj Das and Tapas Sharma played pivotal roles in coordinating the event and ensuring its smooth execution.

Chitkara University’s NSS Unit’s Amrit Vatika plantation drive was symbolic of the collective efforts of young minds striving for a greener and a united India.
