Chitkara University Hosts Verde Vasundhara, Celebrating Sustainable Solutions on World Earth Day
Chitkara University’s Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Centre of Excellence for Sustainability, in collaboration with the Bioenzyme Entrepreneurs Academy of India (BEA) based in Bangalore, recently hosted the highly anticipated Verde Vasundhara – A Vibrant Celebration of Sustainable Life. The event, marking World Earth Day, brought together a diverse group of participants, including students, professionals, and environmental advocates from across India. With the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” the day focused on fostering awareness, sparking dialogue, and driving actionable change towards a more sustainable future.
Held on the university’s campus, the event provided a platform for engaging discussions, hands-on workshops, and educational showcases that emphasised the importance of sustainability at both the individual and collective levels. TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), as the knowledge partner for the event, lent its expertise in environmental issues and contributed to the discussions surrounding climate change, conservation, and sustainable practices. The presence of representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) added an authoritative voice to the event, underscoring its significance in addressing the challenges of environmental preservation.
A key highlight of the day was the series of research presentations that offered insights into cutting-edge sustainable technologies and practices. Additionally, a Bioenzyme workshop, aimed at educating local farmers on the use of eco-friendly bioenzymes for soil enrichment and waste management, fostered a practical approach to sustainability. This workshop was a step toward bridging the gap between research and grassroots-level action, providing participants with valuable tools for making a direct impact on their communities.
One of the standout features of Verde Vasundhara was the involvement of Chitkara University’s Ecolution Club, whose members played an instrumental role in turning the event into a living example of sustainability. The club’s creativity and commitment to environmental stewardship were showcased through their innovative use of campus waste materials, transforming them into 70% of the event’s branding and décor. This not only contributed to reducing the event’s carbon footprint but also demonstrated the potential of upcycling and resourcefulness in creating a greener future.
The event truly embodied the values of community, innovation, and environmental responsibility, bringing together individuals from all walks of life to share ideas and solutions for a sustainable tomorrow. Through these collaborative efforts, Chitkara University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering environmental awareness and action on campus and beyond.
