Chitkara University hosted All-India Level, North Zone Table Tennis Tourney (Men)
Chitkara University strives to promote the physical and mental well-being of its students. Sports activities are encouraged for comprehensive development of student’s personality which include physical fitness, intelligence quotient levels, character, endurance, mental abilities, time management skill, punctuality and overall discipline which students need in their routine. Following this, the University keeps organizing several sports events and competitions, and the University teams have been making their presence felt at various tournaments with their competitive performance and sportsman spirit.
Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh, was bestowed with the responsibility of hosting the North Zone Inter University Table Tennis Tournament 2018 – Men, by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) was organised from November 16-18, 2018. The tournament was the qualifying stage for teams from North India to represent themselves at the All-India Level.
The Tournament was declared open by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr Varinder Kanwar, at Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh, on November 16, 2018. The three-day fiesta saw 65 teams from all over North India in nail biting matches and thrilling performances. Participants left no stone unturned to win as the tournament was the qualifying stage for teams from North India to represent their States at the All-India level.
Chitkara University, Punjab, lifted the Winner’s Trophy, defeating Delhi University, Delhi; Punjabi University, Patiala; and Punjab University, Chandigarh; teams and will now compete at the All India Level.
The tourney was full of excitement not only for the players, but others also. The event concluded on a high note with a spectacular closing ceremony, acknowledgments, and announcement of the qualifying teams. Chief Coach of Hockey Team from National Institute of Sports, Mr Rajinder Singh, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Silver medalist in 1978 Asian Games Bankok and Gold Medalist in 1980 Moscow Russia Olympics, Mr Rajinder has been a great inspiration with many laurels under his belt at National and International tournaments.
