Chitkara University felicitated alumni Ojaswwee Sharma for excellence in filmmaking

Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh felicitated its CSE, Batch 2008 alumnus Ojaswwee Sharma, an award-winning Indian film director, producer and screenwriter, for excellence in filmmaking.

Film director Ojaswwee Sharma’s docudrama film “Admitted” was awarded the Special Jury Award ‘Rajat Kamal’ for Non-Feature Film at the 68th National Film Awards on Friday, July 23, 2022, adding yet another award to his name.

Films of 2020 were honored at this year’s awards ceremony due to delays related to COVID-19. The event was organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals, which comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced the award winners.

Ojaswwee calls the recognition a pat on the back and motivation to work on human interest stories. He says, “It is great to see the film receiving such recognition and recognition not just from the audience but also from an esteemed jury of the 68th National Awards. He thanked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for giving him the award, ensuring that stories from all formats and genres find a place in films”.

Ojaswwee Sharma was recently awarded the ‘Best National Documentary’ award for the docudrama ‘Admitted’ at the 17th MIFF – Mumbai International Film Festival 2022 by Film Division India and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

A special screening of the award-winning docudrama ‘Admitted’ was held at the Chitkara University, followed by the Felicitation Ceremony, and Interaction.

His repertoire of work includes more than 90 films and programs, acknowledged with 18 awards and 76 Official Selections across Film Festivals globally. His work ranges from films, ad campaigns, television and talk shows, and digital features to short films and documentaries. His work for International Film Festivals, State Governments and Social Organizations – NGOs – has helped facilitate a lot of encouragement, funding and awareness for relevant causes. Ojaswwee Sharma’s adeptness in bringing out concerning issues and daunting subject matters, planning and directing films and video-driven campaigns across genres, have received encouraging feedback and recognition from audiences and media globally.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor, Chitkara University, congratulated him on receiving the highest honour received from Govt. Of India, and expressed happiness on the monumental recognition received. “Ojaswwee had always been an out-of-the-box thinker and an initiative taker during his days at the University. He comes from the 1st Batch of our University and we are immensely proud of him” said Dr Varinder S Kanwar, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh.

Ojaswwee Sharma’s interview and interaction session with the students of the University was moderated by Dr. Ruchi Sharma, Academician, Communication Coach and Artist and was attended by students. He shared his interest in thematic concerns like education, technology, inclusion and gender equality that intersect at some point or another in his cinematic representation of real-life stories.

During the conversation, he laid focus on the fact that his films are his way of storytelling with which he hopes to change society for the good. He addressed the audience specifically for taking the leap of faith as they focus on their degrees to get ready for the professional world as Chitkara University is a one-of-a-kind institution that prepares students with life skills.
