Chitkara University celebrated Himachal Statehood Day
The Office of Student Affairs, Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh in association with the S.U.F.Y club, organized “QUIZ-O-MANIA” in honour of the prestigious Himachal Statehood Day, in honour of the glory, elegance, and culture of Himachal Pradesh. It was a memorable experience for the students, who enthusiastically participated and displayed their knowledge of the state, which is also popularly called “Dev Bhoomi.” Two rounds of the contest covered Himachal Pradesh’s history, politics, geography, and general knowledge. Siddharth Saroha bagged the first position in the contest, followed by Aditya Sharma, who was the first runner-up.
The state of Himachal Pradesh, also known as “Dev Bhoomi” or the “Land of God”, came into existence on January 25, 1971. The word Himachal is a combination of the Sanskrit words “Hima” and “Anchal”, which mean “snow” and “lap” respectively. It is no coincidence that the state is located in the lap of the Himalayas. The integration of four districts—Mandi, Chamba, Mahasu, and Sirmour—with 30 princely states led to the formation of Himachal Pradesh as a Union Territory in 1948. Eventually, in 1971, the province attained statehood and became the 18th state in India. The state of Himachal Pradesh, which lies in the Lower Himalayas Range, is a cultural cocktail and a haven for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. With its extensive green spaces, Himachal Pradesh is home to over 350 animal species and 450 bird species. Himachal Pradesh has a staggering 37,033 square kilometres of forest area, which makes up 66.52% of the total land area. The state is also home to the largest glacier in Asia. The Shigri Glacier is located in the Lahaul-Spiti area and feeds the Chenab River.
