Dr Varinder S Kanwar was invited by the University Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering, La Rochelle, France, and Lycée Emile Combes, Pons, France, to deliver expert talk on problem of holding structures / buildings in seismic situations and on road system in India. He had sessions with students and staff of these institutions.

Davinder and Anshul students from Civil Engineering Department also took part in this exchange program, which will go on for six weeks.

Dr Kanwar while throwing light on structures and buildings in seismic zones said that the interaction between the architectural and the structural design produces situations that reduce the seismic resistant capacity of buildings. Though several studies and recommendations have been carried out to avoid such situations.

While talking about the road system in India, Dr Kanwar said that India has a road network of over 5,472,144 kilometres (3,400,233 mi) as on 31 March 2015, the second largest road network in the world. Adjusted for its large population, India has less than 3.8 kilometres of roads per 1000 people, including all its paved and unpaved roads. In terms of quality, all season, 4 or more lane highways, India has less than 0.07 kilometres of highways per 1000 people, as of 2010. These are some of the lowest road and highway densities in the world.

He made students in France aware about roads in India by discussing the topics in detail and keenly answered the queries put across to him.
